This is a collection of my oil paintings; a variety of works past and present. (Keep in mind that these images are edited and may not accurately represent the colors of the originals).
While they may appear to be photo realistic, I make an effort to have the painting process visible on most of the works (the dabs, brush strokes, etc.). Many of them have a lot of detail and those can take many weeks to complete. Adding a hint of impressionism brings the painting life by adding some texture and giving it a sparkle. In addition, the structure of the composition and the color palette add to its dynamics. All of these help to engage you into the painting on an emotional level. As an artist, I'm constantly striving to create images on canvas that will pull you into them, making a connection with you. Capturing an instant in time that will have you consumed and lost inside the piece oblivious to the real world. A soothing day dream feeling that lets you forget all that's going on around you. (In a way it's how I am when I'm painting them). Using a variety of techniques with color, subject selection and design, each painting takes on a live of it's own. I work mainly from photographs, usually my own, sometimes revisiting a site many different times to get the image I like. The constant change in nature provides endless variety of subject matter, for example, no two clouds or sunsets are the same. |
