Joseph Paul Toth was born 1951 in Ironwood, Michigan. This rural area has a diverse rural environment of old mountain bluffs, rivers, Lake Superior, acres of forests, and of course some of the most magnificent winter scenery in this country.
Joe graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 1977. While attending MCAD, Joe studied painting and drawing with nationally and locally known instructors including Birney Quick, Paul Olson, Jim Olson, Gary Powers and Aurora Burpee. These early influences contributed to his expressive abilities as an artist and can be seen in his early works. In addition to this formal training, he spent many hours in museums and galleries around the world, studying the works of Monet, Degas, Sargent, Rembrandt, Rubens, etc., recreating paintings of their works as a study of technique and style.
Joe's works include landscapes, portraits, fine art renditions/studies and a few still lifes. He has done a variety of commissions and his paintings are collected throughout the United States. Working primarily in oil on canvas but also: watercolors, pastel, pencil, charcoal, acrylics, pen and ink, and computer graphics.
